Feedback Please!
We are in the midst of planning for next year and are looking for feedback on the technology we currently use for our admissions web space. Please, if you have any feedback for the admissions site, student-2-student, student diaries and / or this blog that would be great. If you have other ideas of technology we should explore, please comment. Also we are looking at better integration amongst the various resources, so if you have ideas, again, let us know.

CommentsOn the whole, the Wharton applications process has been FANTASTIC. I do have a couple suggestions that i think would make this even better

Your blog is very informative. However it is pretty hard task but your post and
experienced serve and teach me how to handle and make it more simple and manageable.
Thanks for the tips… Best regards.

The application was great. Thanks.

Wharton's admission process is very well organised and is well assisted by technology.
Suggestion: The connect feature which involves a student being mapped to the profile posted by a prospective applicant could increase the interaction of "outsiders" with campus community.

"What is the value-add by obtaining an MBA degree, at a personal, financial, professional level? What makes a professional with MBA more valuable than one without MBA. "
The value is probably better palcement. many recruiters appreciate the MBA
Especailly form UPENN

What is the value-add by obtaining an MBA degree, at a personal, financial, professional level? What makes a professional with MBA more valuable than one without MBA. One can extend the question to be more specific to the MBA program of Wharton.

On S2S, is there any way of making threads stick at the top of the lists? Could be a useful way to keep FAQ type information visible. Would be useful to have some sort of 'Who's Who' information so that people are aware who are adcoms / students / alumni speaking with some authority/knowledge.

You all do a great job!
Couple comments:
1) I think the entire Wharton website should be designed to look more professional. Harvard Business School is a good example. There should be higher quality pictures, better organized texts, news, etc. The color scheme (i.e. beige) does not look good. Use the school colors, or use reds and blues, for example. Expanded sections on student thoughts and faculty comments. Wharton is way better than HBS, and should use the website to show this.
2) There should be a FAQ for the blog with basic questions answered that come up repeatedly in the blog. For example, too many people ask if their GMAT score is good enough or if their GPA will prevent them from admission. Wharton should just spell out these answers very clearly upfront, so the adcom does not waste space answering the same q's over and over.
3) I dont think there should be a link to the Business Week forums. Some of these forums say negative things about Wharton, and I dont think Wharton should be having links to a website that puts down the school (even if other comments on the site are helpful).
Thanks for doing a great job! I think these changes would look great!

The application was great -- easy to fill out, etc, but the process after acceptance has been confusing. It would be helpful to have the status of all of the "required" info on the status page. For example, once my GMAT scores were verified, I was able to see a statement that said "verified," but until then I had no idea what the status was. Would be helpful to see status of that (and verifications, etc) as you go through the process.

I think wiki for faq is a brilliant idea. In fact wiki could be used for mba themes as well (e.g. interview wiki - where applicants post their interview experience, wailist wiki, etc).
A good example of wiki technology is Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction

i think the print formatting will be fixed for next year in a pdf version of the print the applicant will see.

On the whole, the Wharton applications process has been FANTASTIC. I do have a couple suggestions that i think would make this even better-
It wouldve been a great help if atleast one of the chats couldve been held on a weekend. Those of us on pacific time and other time zones would really appreciate it!
Also in the actual application, the formatting when printed is supposedly not representative of what comes out at the admissions office. Could you guys fix this so that no more questions on formatting are raised all over s2s? That would be great.

wiki ... ok, this has been somsething i need to learn more about, so that will be a task for the day!
re: FAQ, perhaps we could have a 'category' on this blog labeled FAQ, and keep that maintained as new questions arise (on s2s etc.) ?
Posted by: alex | May 3, 2005 11:49:03 AM
The s2s site and this blog are very useful to any b-school applicant.
As an applicant, perhaps the only thing I looked for and I didn't find on this site was b-school rankings - actually i wasn't even aware that there were so many different rankings and varied criteria/methods for ranking.
Also, thank you for hosting the chats ! For some of the most common questions that come up during the chats & on the boards, using a Wiki that can be updated by adcom members might be a good option. Overall, Wharton's admission-related sites have excellent technology to enable interaction and information flow.

It might be helpful to have a FAQ for applicants in different stages of the process. Might help mitigate some of the overdone questions.
I'm sure you could get different bloggers to help writing some of these.
Some examples might be:
FAQ for applicant just exploring B-school
FAQ for applicant who knows they want to go to school just not sure where
FAQ for applicant who knows they're interested in Wharton and is looking for more information on the school
FAQ for applicant who has submitted and wonders what happens next
FAQ for admitted student looking for information on how to decided where to go etc or what they can do to reapply etc if they've been dinged
